The Legend of Rory Mackay

It began when Perfect Live’s founder and owner, Rory (a.k.a. Gadget) Mackay’s interest into the entertainment industry was perked at the tender age of 5 years old. He had started learning and was wowing his friends and captive audience with the art of magic.

Back then everything was carted from venue to venue, which included his non suspecting Dad as well as all the props (i.e. balloons, rabbits, doves, to mention a few). Rory’s magical mystery show was a hit and all had to play along to this great interactive exhibition. This evolved into his own unique style which he has become renowned for, and shows and requests started coming in.

After studying and pottering around with a bit more magic, Rory inevitably started performing to larger audiences and for about 4 years was a familiar site at Cape Town's V&A Waterfront.

Rory then tested his ol’ sea legs and boarded an old warship known as the Lowland Lancer Floating Casino and joined as part of their entertainment crew. This merry cruise came to an end after about 1 year when Rory sadly parted ways with the Lowland Lancer, and joined Brian Boswell’s Circus.

This exciting adventure has given him the priveledge of traveling all over South Africa as well as overseas (incl. China, Singapore and Malaysia).

Rory is an accomplished mime, clown, magician and stilt-walker, with some of his more daring exploits including flying trapeze, stunt work and his ever popular, jaw dropping underwater escape artist act.

Our magician’s shows evolved and out of this, Perfect Live was born. Rory had a new ‘bee in his bonnet’, and was drawn into the world of deejaying. His audiences were now introduced to a unique blend of deejaying that included magic.

He was booking gigs all over South Africa, including corporates like BP as well as Schools, Fetes and Community Fairs, Supermarkets and Shopping Centres for their Grand Openings, Fundraisers and Charities as giving is always a big part of Rory’s upbringing.

Rory joined Mr Bongers at Radio Discotheque as a Repair Technician and after a 2 years opened Perfect Live Sound, Radio & Disco Equipment.

Perfect Live provides affordable solutions for Rental of DJ, Sound and Lighting Equipment as well as the Perfect entertainment options for kiddie parties, corporate team building, etc.

   

Footnote:

After being in a serious motorcycle accident, Rory devotes most of his spare time to assisting South African Police and the Neighbourhood Watch as Sector 1 in Goodwood.

This is done at no income, and completely voluntary which is his contribution as a concerned citizen to make a difference ensure a safety within his community.
